Granate Hesonita (Grosularia) from Žulová, Friedeberg, Jeseník, Olomouc, República Checa — Terrium

Description

Bright hessonite crystals with good habit and lustre, dark-caramel in colour with an internal red-honey tone. Among them, three black, opaque prisms, discreetly integrated and barely distinguishable to the naked eye. They may be rare-earth-rich epidote (allanite-(Ce)). Under a hand lens, excellent.

About Granate

Hessonite is the ferrous-calcium variety of grossular. Its orange to reddish-brown colour is due to the presence of iron and manganese.

About the locality

Famous since the 19th century for the quality of its hessonites and epidotes.
