Description

Violet fluorite crystals, translucent and with good lustre, of well-defined cubic habit, with dark inclusions, associated with small white to translucent quartz crystals.

History of this specimen

Theo and Gigi Döring, the previous owners, were a pair of teachers from Bavaria who collected mainly between 1960 and 1985. Theo "Tex" Döring was also a well-known figure in Bamberg, not only for minerals but as the pianist of the local jazz group, the "Tex Döring Trio".

About Fluorita

Violet fluorite from Berbes is one of the most recognisable local types of the species in Europe.

About the locality

Classic Asturian fluorite locality, worked intermittently for decades and known for producing reference specimens worldwide. Mineralisation occurs in cavities in carbonate rocks, with clean associations with quartz. Historic, good-quality specimens form part of the core of European collecting.
