About Celestina

Celestine (SrSO₄) is a strontium sulfate named after the Latin caelestis for the sky-blue hue of its most prized specimens, though it can also be colorless, white, or grayish. Isostructural with baryte (barium sulfate) and anglesite (lead sulfate), it stands out for the contrast between its high density and low hardness (3 on the Mohs scale), making it as heavy as it is fragile. Beyond captivating collectors with the transparency and vitreous luster of its prismatic or tabular crystals, it serves as the primary global ore for strontium extraction.
