Description

Fibrous aggregates of green clinozoisite with dark almandine garnet crystals scattered over matrix. Vitreous luster and acicular prismatic habit. Very good for a loupe.

History of this specimen

Los Serranos (Orihuela) stands out for its metamorphic formations rich in clinozoisite and garnets, thanks to the presence of schists and gneisses that favor the growth of these minerals. The area is highly appreciated by collectors for the aesthetics and color of its specimens.

About the locality

For nearly three decades, this quarry in Albatera produced stone for roads and railways, along with beautiful minerals like quartz and epidote. After closing due to the construction slump, the site was abandoned, though you can still find small minerals among its rocks today.
