Description
Botryoidal aggregate with small, rounded spheres covering the piece as a multicoloured cluster. Grey‑lilac, pale green, white and cream tones; dense texture.
About Cuarzo
The so-called "grape agate" is a trade name for spheroidal aggregates of quartz. Although sold for years as agate or chalcedony, current studies indicate that the Mamuju specimens are not agate, but radially grown quartz/amethyst.
About the locality
Specimens known as "grape agate" come from the Mamuju area, in West Sulawesi, Indonesia. Mindat places the "Grape Agate mines" as a series of deposits between Pantai Ngalo and areas to the north towards Mamuju, including Takandeang, Tanete Kalaha, Tanete Pao, Lumbia and Salletto.
