Yeso Sericolita from Qinglong Mine, Dachan, Qinglong County, Guizhou, China — Terrium

Description

Fine, elongated aggregate, translucent, colourless. Under UV light, scattered green dots appear—uranates in the matrix.

About Yeso

Under ultraviolet light, gypsum from Qinglong shows a faint green speckled glow due to uranyl, present in the crystal structure and in microparticles.

About the locality

This locality is noted for very rare curved "ram's horn" gypsum, formed very slowly at low temperature. The combination of their unusual curved habit, crystalline transparency and uranium fluorescence distinguishes them from the very similar Moroccan specimens, which do not fluoresce.
