Barita from Mina Marisol, Campos de golf, Cartagena, Región de Murcia, España — Terrium

Description

Elongated and VERY HEAVY piece of white barite crystals with black pyrolusite coatings.

About Barita

This barium sulfate stands out for its white tabular crystals nicely enriched with distinctive pyrolusite coatings. A typical Campos de Golf paragénesis quite sought-after.

About the locality

Absorbed by the La Manga Club resort in the 1970s, the historic Atamaría mining enclave (Cartagena) is world-famous for the iconic barite specimens found in legendary mines like Marisol. Today, this geological heritage is critically endangered by real estate speculation and golf course expansions that threaten to permanently bury its remaining dumps and galleries.
