Aragonito Blanco (Bulboso) from Macael, Almería, Andalucía, España — Terrium

Description

Bulbous and stalactitic crystals. Shows dual fluorescence, possibly due to the possible presence of magnesium in the crown zone.

About Aragonito

It seems simple, but it is not. Its white, bulbous form recalls inert concretions, yet it grew drop by drop from the roof of a cavity, forming cottony-looking stalactites. It is aragonite, a polymorph of calcite, less stable but more distinctive.

About the locality

From Macael, known for its white marble, where stalactitic aragonites also form in fissures associated with hydrothermal processes.
