Bright black crystals on a pale cream matrix. Typical igneous-rock association. Magnetite crystals embedded in a granitic matrix rich in orthoclase.
About Magnetita
Magnetite is an iron oxide and one of the principal iron ore minerals. It is easily recognised by its characteristic black colour, metallic to submetallic lustre and, above all, its strong natural magnetism. This piece is representative of the granitic batholith of the Sierra de Guadarrama.
About the locality
The label indicates La Cabrera, Madrid. Mindat documents orthoclase in the La Cabrera granitic pluton and in nearby quarries in the same area, such as Isabel/La Saludadora or Peña Mojada.
