Piromorfita
Piromorfita is a mineral with formula Pb₅(PO₄)₃Cl, in the Fosfatos group. This specimen comes from Mina Crabulazzu, Arbus, Sarcidano, Cerdeña, Italia and joined the Terrium collection in 2025.
Description
Aggregates of small bright green crystals lining cavities in limonitic matrix. The crystals, of short prismatic habit, reach up to 2 mm and show good vitreous lustre, forming a uniform, attractive druse.
About Piromorfita
Pyromorphite is a secondary lead phosphate, common in the oxidised zones of lead deposits. Sardinian specimens are recognised by their intense green tones and small but well-formed crystals.
About the locality
The Crabulazzu mine, in Arbus, is known for producing classic pyromorphite specimens in the second half of the 20th century. The deposit is currently inactive, and well-crystallised pieces are increasingly scarce on the market.
