Arfvedsonita
Arfvedsonita is a mineral with formula (Na,Ca)₂(Fe²⁺,Mg)₄Fe³⁺(Si₈O₂₂)(OH)₂, in the Silicatos (Inosilicatos) group. This specimen comes from Jebel Ewarghizen, Tirrhist, Anemzi, Agoudim, Midelt, Marruecos and joined the Terrium collection in 2011.
Description
Group of prismatic arfvedsonite crystals with parallel growth, striated faces, and shiny polycrystalline terminations of dark green, almost black color. On a feldspar matrix in beige tones, contrasting with the intense black of the arfvedsonite. Piece with balanced aesthetics, good contrast, and a striking crystal arrangement.
History of this specimen
Arfvedsonite is a mineral from the amphibole group, characterized by its dark color and vitreous luster. This specimen comes from a well-known Moroccan locality famous for its high-quality crystals. The matrix is made up of feldspar, a mineral group with the general formula KAlSi₃O₈ – NaAlSi₃O₈ – CaAl₂Si₂O₈, which includes microcline, orthoclase, and albite, adding contrast and volume to the piece.
