Dioptasa
Dioptasa is a mineral with formula CuSiO₃·H₂O, in the Silicatos (Ciclosilicatos) group. This specimen comes from Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto, Namibia and joined the Terrium collection in 2025.

Terracotta-colored matrix with dioptase speckles. High contrast, very beautiful
History of this specimen
It bothered me that it was sawn on the back and they did not warn me. I discovered that it is quite a common practice depending on the pieces.

- Etymology
- From the Greek 'dia' (διά), 'through', and 'optos' (ὀπτός), 'visible'. It was named this way because, according to René Just Haüy, the internal cleavage planes could be seen simply by looking through the crystals.
