Calcita
Xianghualing is a classic district in southern China that has produced magnificent specimens of calcite, fluorite and sulphides. Industrial mining continues, but the old artisanal workings that yielded specimens like this one are now strictly off limits. It is very difficult for any new material to emerge from the area. Even so, because demand remains and there is money to be made, in 2026 six people set up an illegal mining operation in the old tunnels, where they even lived while extracting no less than 12 tonnes of ore. It did them little good. They ended up in prison, and all the material was confiscated.
