Description

Large metallic galena crystal in cubic habit with rounded edges, resting on a cavity lined with well-defined calcite crystals of "dog-tooth" habit. Very aesthetic and well proportioned.

About Galena

Solid, metallic, ancient. Galena is the principal lead ore mineral, with characteristic lustre and cubic or octahedral forms. Its high density and compact appearance make it unmistakable.

About the locality

The Linares mining district was one of the largest lead-mining areas in Europe during the 19th and 20th centuries. The La Cruz Mines are known for well-defined galena crystals, often accompanied by calcite.
