Aragonito
Aragonito is a mineral with formula CaCO₃, in the Carbonatos group. This specimen comes from Perdonig (Predonico), Eppan an der Weinstraße (Appiano sulla Strada del Vino), Überetsch-Unterland (Oltradige-Bassa Atesina), South Tyrol, Italia and joined the Terrium collection in 2025.
Description
Very good specimen with singular, extremely delicate crystallisation. Marked aesthetic contrast between the purity of the centre and the warm tones of the matrix. Radial-spherulitic aggregate of white acicular crystals emanating from a denser central core, grading to ochre-pink tones towards the periphery due to oxide impregnation.
About Aragonito
Aragonite is a polymorph of calcium carbonate. It crystallises in the orthorhombic system and commonly occurs as stalactites, fibrous aggregates, or radiating forms. It forms in sedimentary, hydrothermal, and volcanic environments.
About the locality
Classic Italian locality noted for geodes and cavities lined with acicular aragonite, highly regarded by collectors for radial perfection and colour contrast.
