Aragonito
Aragonito is a mineral with formula CaCO₃, in the Carbonatos group. This specimen comes from Campo de Molina, Molina de Aragón, Guadalajara, Castilla-La Mancha, España and joined the Terrium collection in 2010.
Description
Pseudohexagonal prism formed by cyclic twins, with well-marked longitudinal striations and a whitish termination from partial dissolution. Shows light oxide staining and minor lateral chips, preserving its overall structure.
History of this specimen
Óscar collected it about 15 years ago at the type locality, without intermediaries, during a field trip. Direct provenance and historical value within my collection.
About Aragonito
Calcium carbonate that crystallises in the orthorhombic system. Very common in sedimentary and hydrothermal environments, and as a secondary mineral in oxidised zones.
