About Axinita
Local rarity, a typically Málaga specimen. Axinite is a borosilicate known for its tabular, leaf- or blade-like habit and for pleochroism, seen as subtle colour changes with crystal orientation.
About the locality
La Juanona is one of the few Spanish localities with quality axinite. A contact-metamorphic deposit where axinite occurs with chlorite and epidote. Well-formed pieces, like this one, are scarce and appreciated in Spanish systematic collections.
