Löllingita from Huanggualiang Mine, Keshiketeng, Chifeng, Mongolia Interior, China — Terrium

Description

Silver Cabbage. Massive metallic matrix with mounds of calcite. Löllingite forms large lenticular crystals clustered like tightly packed cabbage leaves, with an intense silvery metallic lustre. These steely 'petals' envelop pink scalenohedral calcite, creating a stark contrast—harsh metal versus soft satin lustre.

About Löllingita

An iron arsenide (diarsenide) that commonly occurs as prismatic crystals or lustrous lenticular masses. It forms part of the iron triangle Pyrite–Löllingite–Arsenopyrite. Pyrite is FeS2, iron disulphide; Löllingite is FeAs2, iron diarsenide; and Arsenopyrite is FeAsS, an iron sulfoarsenide.

About the locality

Huanggualiang Mine is a major Chinese producer of metallic species, noted for specimens with very good aesthetics.
