Yeso from Túnel José Maestre, Portmán, Murcia, Región de Murcia, España — Terrium

Description

Pale yellow acicular crystals, very fine and delicate, arranged radially on a ferruginous matrix. The contrast between the warm hue of the crystals and the dark base emphasises the sculptural character of the specimen.

History of this specimen

It was the specimen that changed the way Pedro and I recorded and edited the minerals we had, the one with which we added rocky and drone-like sounds.

About Yeso

Gypsum is a very common hydrated sulphate, but the well-formed acicular specimens from Portmán are highly regarded for their transparency and radial arrangement.

About the locality

Historic extraction at Túnel José Maestre ceased decades ago; the workings are now collapsed or inaccessible, making older specimens increasingly difficult to find.
