Description

Honey-coloured calcite in elongated, sharp scalenohedral crystals with pronounced transverse striations. Transparent, with strong vitreous lustre. Blue fluorescence and phosphorescence under long-wave UV.

About Calcita

Very common calcium carbonate with three perfect cleavages; effervesces with acids and occurs in a wide range of habits and colours.

About the locality

Jalgaon, in the state of Maharashtra, is renowned for its honey-coloured calcites of high transparency and scalenohedral habit. A world reference locality for this mineral.
