Description

Dedo cactus cactus dedo. Columnar crystal coated by small peach-coloured rhombohedra with vitreous lustre. The rhombohedra are oriented in all directions, forming a homogeneous, dotted surface. Shows bluish-white fluorescence under UV light.

About Calcita

Calcium carbonate that crystallises in the trigonal system. It is one of the most common species in the Earth's crust and forms in sedimentary, metamorphic, or hydrothermal settings.

About the locality

The La Araña quarries, in the eastern area of Málaga, are worked in Triassic limestones with cavities lined by pale calcite, frequently fluorescent.
