Barita from Mina Marisol, Campos de golf, Cartagena, Región de Murcia, España — Terrium

Description

Small piece of white barite coated with pyrolusite

About Barita

Barite (barium sulfate) from los Campos de Golf at Cartagena-La Unión stands out for its thick, typically white or colorless tabular crystals, occasionally enriching its paragenesis with pyrolusite coatings.

About the locality

The historic Atamaría mining enclave (Cartagena), world-famous for iconic barite specimens from mines like Marisol, was absorbed by the La Manga Club resort in the 1970s. Today, this geological heritage is critically endangered by real estate speculation and golf course expansions that threaten to permanently bury its remaining dumps and galleries.
